Tianshan Tianchi: Where Nature Meets Legend

Tianshan Tianchi, nestled in the Tian Shan Mountains of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is more than just a picturesque high-altitude lake. Located under Bogda Peak and about 1980 meters above sea level, this lake was formed by ancient glacial activities, creating a stunning natural spectacle. The crystal-clear waters of Tianshan Tianchi, surrounded by snow-capped mountains and lush forests, resemble a sparkling gem set in the heart of the mountains. But Tianshan Tianchi's allure goes beyond its physical beauty. It is steeped in rich historical and cultural legends, believed to be the mystical abode of the ancient goddess Xi Wangmu. The lake is shrouded in myths, with occasional sightings of fairy-like figures in its waters, adding a layer of enchantment to this already magical place. Tianshan Tianchi is not only a must-visit destination for exploring the natural wonders of Xinjiang but also a gateway to experiencing the fascinating cultural myths of China.

Turpan: A Historical and Cultural Oasis

Turpan, located in the Turpan Basin of eastern Xinjiang, is a city that weaves together a tapestry of history and scenic beauty. As an integral part of the ancient Silk Road, Turpan played a pivotal role in the cultural exchanges between the East and the West. The city is dotted with historical sites like the Thousand Buddha Caves, Gaochang ruins, and Ayding Lake, each telling a story of Turpan's past splendor and the mingling of various cultures. Turpan's landscape is also unique, with the Huoyan Mountains (Flaming Mountains) offering a dramatic backdrop. The Huoyan Mountains are the hottest place in China. The reason Flaming Mountains are so named because in the evenings the red clay mountains reflect the heat and glow of the desert and seem to burn. Under the blazing sun, the red rock glows and hot air curls up like smoke as though it were on fire, hence its name.

What is surprising is that there is an oasis at the foot of such hot Flaming Mountains. A variety of high-quality fruits are grown in this oasis, making it a famous fruit producing area in China. The reason is that the unique climate around the Flame Mountain creates a perfect environment for the growth of fruits. Intense sunlight and large temperature differences between day and night give these fruits their rich aroma and sweet taste. The most famous fruits are cantaloupe, grapes, and figs.

Exploring Xinjiang is a journey of wonder and enchantment, with Tianshan Tianchi's mythical beauty and Turpan's rich historical tapestry offering unique and unforgettable experiences. Each destination in this remarkable region is a testament to the diverse natural splendor and rich cultural heritage of China.
